         Natural Bug Spray Recipe     

Always do a skin test to make sure your horse does not have a reaction. These herbs may test per show rules.

To use fresh herbs. A handfull of each herb: Basil, Lemon Thyme, Lavender, Peppermint, Cloves and Rosemary.(Or various combinations of some of the herbs listed below) Bring 2 quarts of water to a boil, remove from heat, add herbs, stir, cover and let set till cool. Strain, and put in spray bottle. Use within two to three days and keep refrigerated. Alcohol can be added for a preservative. Bacteria will set in fast when herbs are mixed with water.

To make using essential oils. You can find these in most health food stores. Herbs and essential oils with insect repelling properties: Basil, Lemon Thyme, Lavender, Lemongrass, cloves, cederwood, tea tree oil, peppermint, rue, rosemary, sage, and yarrow.

Two Quarts Water or one quart water and one quart apple cider vinegar. (For oil based product add 1/4 cup mineral oil,  works better and lasts longer with this added) 2 teaspoons Lavender oil 2 teaspoons Basil oil 2 teaspoons Rosemary oil 1 teaspoon Lemon Thyme 1 teaspoon Cederwood or clove. Add two quarts water and mix, put in spray bottle. Shake each time before using. You can try various combinations of the herbs listed. Total of all essential oils would be 8 teaspoons per 2 quarts of carrier. Remember essential oils pure are toxic, always dilute with carrier. Happy bug spraying!
